Almond Ncannelate
Dry sweet typical of the tradition of Alessandria della Rocca, produced exclusively with Sicilian almonds.
The origin of this simple but delicious dessert, made with just a few ingredients, is thought to date back to the mid-17th century, only a few decades after the birth of the Borgo by the Barresi family.
These resided in Palermo and it is said that Prince Giuseppe, often visiting the nuns of the Collegio di Maria built on their property and of which he had the patronage, was welcomed by nun Maria Cannella with sweets produced with only a few ingredients at his disposal, almonds, flour and sugar.
From there it became a much appreciated recipe handed down from mother to daughter and the name seems to refer to the nun who invented them, when perhaps the prince himself decided to thank her by giving his creation a name that reminded her
